Adenia skipper appears in court on fraud charge

The skipper of the Whalsay pelagic boat Adenia has become the latest to be charged with fraud in connection with allegedly illegal fish landings at the Shetland Catch processing factory.

George Anderson, 54, appeared in private at Lerwick Sheriff Court today, made no plea or declaration and was committed for further examination. He was released on bail.

Ten other skippers and the current and former managing directors of the factory, Simon Leiper and Derek Leask, were charged earlier this year with fraud or attempted fraud.

Police raided the factory in September 2005 as part of an investigation in conjunction with the fisheries authorities.
