Senior champions Whalsay claim Parish Trophy after close victory over Southend

Senior football champions Whalsay won the coveted Parish Cup trophy by defeating Southend 1-0 in the final at Gilbertson Park on Saturday.

Keith Pearson got the all-important goal after 15 minutes, ghosting in to head past keeper Duncan Flaws.

Any expectations of a more convincing victory never materialised, however, with Southend more than holding their own in a much more even second half.
