New honorary consul for Norway appointed

Burra man John Goodlad has been appointed as Lerwick’s new honorary consul for Norway following the retiral of Laurence John Smith.

Mr Goodlad was for many years at the helm of the Shetland Fishermen’s Association. In this capacity, he represented the views of Shetland fishermen in Edinburgh, London and Brussels. He was also managing director of his own salmon farm before selling this business in 2007.

Mr Goodlad is currently chairman of two Shetland seafood companies – Shetland Catch Ltd and Shetland Fish Products Ltd. He also chairs the Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group.

He continues to work in the field of fisheries and aquaculture as a member of a number of important international fisheries organisations. He has travelled extensively in Norway and is well known within the Norwegian seafood industry.
