Shetland rugby squad gearing up for Edinburgh sevens tournament

The Shetland rugby squad is set to rub shoulders with some of the amateur rugby world’s finest in Edinburgh on Saturday.

The UK’s largest amateur annual seven-a-side tournament returns for the 57th season where teams from all across Britain and the seven seas will battle it out in various plate, bowl and cup competitions.

The day itself promises some big clashes and tests with a number of premier teams represented as well as a bounty of local rivalry provided by a number of teams from the Inverleith Park venue and the surrounding areas.

Sevens rugby is renowned for being the fastest paced and most exciting form of rugby, showcased in what can only be described as a carnival atmosphere. The day will prove to be an invaluable test of the Shetland squad and will provide a means of gauging their development as a team over the past few transistional years.

Exiled Shetlanders and tourists are encouraged to attend the event to support the team which is free to attend. The first game kicks off at 1pm at Inverleith Park in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh.
