Ex-resident facing trial on serious sex charges

A man charged with “very serious” sexual offences against children more than 30 years ago appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court today.

Michael Bruce Polson, 50, formerly of Shetland but who now lives in Denmark and whose local address was given as c/o Aberdeen Considine and Co, Bon Accord Street, Aberdeen, will go to trial next month.

Polson is charged with lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour towards a girl on various occasions when she was between the ages of five and 12, and to a boy between the ages of four and five.

The offences allegedly took place at a house in Shetland between 1974 and 1982. The court heard that complaints were made by both complainers in 1999, but it had been difficult to obtain instructions from solicitors because of Polson’s place of residence.

Polson will go to trial on 18th May.
