Woman charged after police discover cannabis farm at Brae with potential value of £30,000

A woman is in custody after appearing in private at Lerwick Sheriff Court today following a seizure of one of Shetland’s biggest ever cannabis cultivations.

Rachel Holmes, 30, of Burgadale in Brae, made no plea or declaration when she appeared on a petition alleging a contravention of the misuse of drugs act. She was committed for further examination before being held on remand.

Police discovered a major cannabis farm following a house search in Brae yesterday. Cannabis plants with a potential to yield illegal drugs with a street value of £30,000 were seized following the raid.

A spokesman said the Northern Constabulary would maintain its fight against those who attempted to deal in illegal drugs.
