Mossbank man facing assault trial

A man is facing trial at Lerwick Sheriff Court after allegedly turning up uninvited at his former partner’s home and assaulting her.

Jamie Newlands, 27, of Hamarsgarth, Mossbank, pleaded not guilty to the offence when he appeared before honorary Sheriff Eric Peterson today.

He also denied driving carelessly at the scene at Central Park in Sandwick, reversing at excessive speed and spinning his wheels.

The incident is said to have taken place on Saturday.

Trial has been fixed for 26th January, with an intermediate diet on 11th January.

Newlands was released on bail on the special condition he stay away from the area and does not directly approach his alleged victim.
