Parliamentarians to debate Scottish independence at next Althing

The next Althing debate is again highly topical with the independence referendum likely to be one of the main political issues of 2012.

The motion being debated on Saturday 14th January is “Shetland’s future lies in an independent Scotland” and two of the islands’ parliamentary representatives will be facing each other across the debating table.

Speaking for the motion will be MSP Jean Urquhart, supported by Danus Skene, and speaking against will be MP Alistair Carmichael, supported by Ben Raikes.

The debate is in the Tingwall School, starting at 7.30pm.
