International country star to perform in isles

Shetland Country Music Club’s latest visitor is an international recording artist and film star from West Palm Beach, Florida.

Michael James is performing tomorrow night at the Garrison Theatre in Lerwick. On Friday he will be at the Lerwick British Legion and on Saturday night the venue is the Sandness Public Hall.

James has toured extensively and played at prestigious events all over the world. He started off as a drummer and his group, the Blue Jays, worked with the legendary Conway Twitty among others.

He flirted with the big screen and appeared in the hugely successful film Smokey and the Bandit 2, with Burt Reynolds, and Stick with George Segal and Candice Bergen.

Having taught himself to play the guitar while in the Marines, James began to develop his “one-man-band”, in which he plays two sets of pedals, one for bass and the other for keyboards, along with his guitar and deep, rich vocals.

He has over 3,000 songs in his repertoire, from country to rock and easy listening, so anyone going to one of his concerts is sure to hear one of their favourites.
