Lerwick man admits being almost twice the limit

A Lerwick man admitted being at the wheel while almost twice the drink driving limit when he appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court today.

Mark Evans, 48, of the town’s Montfield, pleaded guilty to driving a van along Holmsgarth Road yesterday with 66 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Procurator fiscal Kathryn Gordon moved for the van involved to be forfeited.

Honorary Sheriff Eric Peterson deferred sentence until 11th July. The question of whether the van will be forfeited will also be dealt with then. However the vehicle has been seized in the meantime, and Evans has been disqualified from driving in the interim. He was released on bail.
