Lifeboat tows broken-down Prolific to Lerwick

Lerwick lifeboat was called out in the early this morning after the local whitefish boat Prolific broke down 56 miles east of Lerwick.

The lifeboat was called when the Prolific had engine failure at around 1am. Shetland coastguard said the vessel was drifting and in no immediate danger, and the lifeboat was only tasked after it emerged there were no other vessels in the area to assist.

The lifeboat took the Prolific in tow and they arrived back in Lerwick harbour at 5.30am, with the fishing vessel berthing at Alexandra Wharf.
