Man barred from Co-op after stealing television

A man has been ordered to stay away from a Lerwick supermarket after he admitted stealing a television.

Darren Lawson, 38, of Mill Lane in the town, pleaded guilty to taking the 37″ set from the Co-op on Tuesday morning at 7am.

He entered the store and bought cigarettes and tobacco, but was then seen picking up the TV and walking out between two of the tills.

The matter was reported to the police who went to Lawson’s home address.

He wasn’t there, but pulled up in a car before officers left. They spotted the set in its box on the back seat of the car.

Honorary Sheriff Arnold Duncan deferred sentence on Lawson until 17th October.

He released him on bail on the condition that he does not approach the store.
