The Vevoe Trophy, presented annually by the Swan Trust to the Swan trainee of the year, has been won this year by 15 year-old Erin Simpson of Whalsay.

Erin was a trainee aboard the Swan during the Tall Ships event “Nordic Sail” between 24th June and 9th July during which she voyaged between Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

The Vevoe Trophy, a faithful replica of the Swan’s original wheel, was presented for the first time in 2011 following the Tall Ships races which included Lerwick as a stop-over port. It is kept on display at the North Atlantic Fisheries College in Scalloway.

Erin received a personal memento of the event in the form of an original bronze cold-casting of the Swan at sea. The presentation was made by RNMDSF superintendent Aubrey Jamieson during a social evening for volunteers and trustees at Lerwick Boating Club on Saturday.
