Sumburgh airport closed until 9am

Sumburgh airport was closed until 9am this morning because of snow.

Airport operator HIAL announced on the Sumburgh website that conditions had forced the closure and advised passengers on the early flights to contact airlines before setting off for the airport.

The statement said: “As conditions are constantly changing, HIAL advises all passengers to contact their respective airlines before setting out on their journey and allow extra time to travel and check in.”

An airport spokeswoman said later that the airport had opened at 9am.
