Lifeboat rescues shellfish boat

Aith lifeboat is towing the small shellfish boat Liberty to Brae marina after it sprang a leak off Mangaster Voe this lunchtime before losing electrical power.

Liberty issued a mayday at 12.25pm after taking water and Aith lifeboat was called. Two other vessels Elana Jane and Samphrey also responded. The coastguard rescue helicopter was scrambled from Sumburgh when communications with the stricken vessel were lost, however it was stood down when the lifeboat and one of the other other vessels came alongside.

Liberty was dried out with pumps from the lifeboat and it was established she had taken water through a bilge pump.
