Burst water main likely to cause delays

A water main has burst under the road at the roundabout near Tesco in Lerwick with delays likely as the fault is repaired.

Contractors have been called in to identify and fix the problem. Work is expected to carry on this evening a possibly into tomorrow morning.

Scottish Water has  informed the SIC of the burst. Roads engineer John Johnson said: “It is hoped that disruption will consist of coning a section of carriageway on the road, but it is more likely that the lane will have to be closed, therefore traffic lights will have to be introduced and unfortunately this will cause delays and diversions as no traffic will be able to turn direct onto South Lochside from the South Road”
