Hockey girls ready for semi-final challenge

The Shetland hockey team faces one of its biggest ever challenges on Sunday with the semi-final of the Scottish District Cup.

The team, captained by Nicola Balfour, face Erskine Stewart’s Melville 2 at Aberdeen Sports Village at 11.45am.
Joint coaches Peter Sharp and Jill Hibbert have been delighted by how the girls have progressed in the cup.

Hibbert said: “To come through to the final four out of a starting pool of 32 teams with excellent victories and great performances is reflective of all the hard work which the girls have put in at training and practice games. There is also a great team spirit which will help the girls to work together through this next challenge.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank DITT and NorthLink for sponsorship to assist with travel, Simon Skinner and Sarah Cooper for all their umpiring assistance during training and anyone who has turned up to help provide strong opposition for the team in practice games.

“Please join us in wishing the players all the very best for this forthcoming match. Supporters to help cheer on the girls are very welcome.”

The team for Sunday is: Nicola Balfour (captain), Toni Sidgwick, Janetta Williamson, Megan Hibbert, Julie Kirkness, Jillian Copland, Aimee Keith, Megan Grant, Kristan Robertson, Stacey Laurenson, Dianne Shearer, Maree Simpson, Abbey Irvine, Maggie Irvine, Karis Irvine and Zoe Irvine.
