Three assault charges

A man has been released on bail after facing three charges of assault.

Owen Haughian, 32, of Hoofields in Lerwick appeared from custody today before honorary sheriff Eric Peterson.

He is charged with pushing a man on the body at Herrislea Court in Tingwall on Saturday.

A second charge alleges he struck another man on the body.

He is also charged with punching a woman on the head at Herrislea Hill, seizing hold of her by the arm and dragging her.

Meanwhile, Haughian is accused of screaming, swearing and shouting while being taken to the police station, repeatedly banging his head on the rear window of a police vehicle and refering to a police officer as a Paki.

His case was continued without plea until Wednesday. He was released with the special condition that he is not to be under the influence of alcohol and must provide a breath test when required to do so by police.
