A shock result in senior football’s G&S Flooring Premier League matches last night saw Spurs lose to town rivals Thistle at Gilbertson Park.

Youngster Stuart Copland gave Thistle the lead in the first minute, and for the rest of the half they withstood at times severe pressure from Spurs.

Sam Ward equalised for Spurs in the second half but Thistle had the final say when Aaron Leask grabbed a late winner.

Celtic, meanwhile, maintained their push for the title with a hard-fought win over Ness United at Boddam.

The home side led 2-0 at half-time through goals from James Farmer and Michael Adamson, but Celtic came back strongly and Shane Jamieson, Robert Smith and substitute Lowrie Simpson saw them over the line.

The evening’s other two matches were also close affairs, Scalloway defeating Delting 2-1 at Fraser Park and Whalsay leaving Strom with a 1-0 win over Whitedale.
