Man denies assault

A Lerwick man was released on bail after denying an assault charge at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

William Gillespie, 37, of Stanegarth, pleaded not guilty to assaulting a man on Sunday by grabbing him by the neck, pinning him against a wall and presenting a knife at him in Gillespie’s home.

Sheriff Philip Mann warned Gillespie to stay away from the complainant and not to contact him by any means. A trial date has been set for 21st January with an intermediate hearing on 6th January.
