Hurricane forecast cancels ferry sailing

Bad weather once more disrupted Northlink shipping operations with the passenger ferry Hjaltland expected to arrive in Lerwick at 5pm today (Tuesday 29th Decembert) after sailing from Aberdeen at 4am this morning.

Hurricane force south-easterly winds forecast for early tomorrow morning have forced Northlink to cancel Hjaltland’s southbound sailing from Lerwick at 7pm tonight as well as Hrossay’s scheduled sailing for Kirkwall and Lerwick at 5pm tonight.

The southbound Hrossay is estimated to dock in Aberdeen at 1pm.

Pentland Firth operations have also been affected with Hamnavoe expected to arrive at Stromness at 10.20am after sailing from Scrabster at 8.50am. The 4.45pm sailing from Stromness to Scrabster has been moved forward an hour till 3.35pm, while the 7pm sailing frpom Scrabster will also be an hour earlier.
