Power down after overnight gales

Gale-force winds caused power cuts in various parts of Shetland overnight.

According to Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), 32 customers in Unst lost power at 9pm, but were expected to be restored by 9.40am today.

Another 27 customers were cut off just before 11pm due to a damaged pole, but were expected to get power back by 2pm today.

In Walls today 19 customers lost power just after midnight, but are expecting to have power again by noon, and 18 customers in the Skellister area were cut off at 7.20am due to a damaged pole, but power should be restored by 1pm.

SSE engineers are making their way to Shetland on the NorthLink ferry due to arrive at 5pm to bring extra equipment to assist in restoring power.
