Ferry sailings cancelled

The strong winds have again forced NorthLink to cancel ferry sailings between Aberdeen and Lerwick.

Before Hogmanay the company issued an alert saying that post-new year sailings were under review and this morning confirmed that there would be no sailings today.

Gale warnings have been issued for the seas around Shetland with southeasterly winds predicted to reach storm force 10.

Serco NorthLink also warned passengers that there is a “high possibility” of cancellations tomorrow with the gales forecast to persist into the start of next week. If the Hjaltland does set sail on its northbound journey tomorrow it will not call in at Kirkwall.
