Creel boat Majestic sinks off Yell

Two fishermen were rescued from the waters to the northwest of Yell after the vessel they were on board started to sink.

A mayday was issued at 10.16am on Thursday when the fishing boat Majestic started to take on water.

The fishermen were safely picked up shortly afterwards by another boat that was in the area, the Fairway.

The Majestic had fully submerged by around 2.30pm that afternoon. There was no attempt made to tow the boat to shore before she sank.

According to the coastguard the decision was made to allow the boat to sink because the logistics of saving the vessel would have put the boat which had saved the casualties in danger.
