Assault man awaits sentence

A man had been convicted of assaulting his ex-partner on various occasions before the pair split up last December.

Robert Setrice, 41, of Skerpalea in Sandwick was found guilty of the assaults and breaching a bail order not to contact his partner  after a trial at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Setrice had denied assaulting the woman at Skerpalea and at her home in Hoofields on various occasions between 15th October and 16th December 2015.

He was charged with repeatedly grabbing her by the body and applying pressure, grabbing hold of her by the neck and dragging her and throwing her to the floor and kicking her on the body all to her injury.

Events came to a head when the woman ended up in hospital after an attack on 16th December when the police became involved.

Setrice then sent her a text message on 22nd December after he had been granted bail on the condition that he did not contact her by any means.

Sheriff Kevin Veal deferred sentence on Setrice in order for a social enquiry report to be prepared for the 12th October. Setrice was released on bail.
