WATCH: Video shows adventure of Viking who made it in time for Up-Helly-A’

Intrepid yachtsman Erik Aanderaa was one of two single-handed sailors who made the 200 mile plus crossing from southern Norway to Lerwick in rough seas just before Up-Helly-A’ in order to take in the fire festival for the first time.

Now Erik has posted a You Tube video of his tough crossing which will make for compelling viewing for yachting types and also those who are filled with horror at the prospect of sailing single-handed across the North Sea.

Erik’s video is so raw you can almost taste the salt in the air – and maybe feel a bit seasick too! Finally Erik makes landfall and manages to see the procession and firey end of the galley.
