A truck left the road at Dales Lees, north of Voe, on Wednesday causing delays for traffic travelling on the A968.
Traffic lights were to be put in place on Wednesday afternoon, the council said, and the road there is to be closed between 9am and 1pm on Thursday.
All traffic, including cars heading to Toft for ferry connections to the North Isles, should divert through Brae.
