Shetland Space Centre welcomes approval of Sutherland launch site

The chief executive of Shetland Space Centre has welcomed news that Highland Council has approved plans for a satellite launch site in Sutherland.

Frank Strang has insisted there is “no commercial tension” between the Sutherland Space Hub and the Unst development.

Mr Strang said it was an opportunity to stress that Scotland and the UK were “open for the space industry”.

“None of the business that we have is affected in the slightest. This sends a strong message.

“The Scottish government is very keen for all the space ports to work together. The Shetland team are in monthly dialogue with the Sutherland team and the Benbecula team.”
