UPDATED: Yellow weather warning withdrawn for Lerwick Up-Helly-A’ night

The Met Office has withdrawn a yellow weather warning for Shetland on Tuesday night.

It had warned of strong winds from 8pm on Lerwick Up-Helly-A’ night until 9am the following morning.

But it has since revised the warning, with Shetland no longer included.

Sunday evening’s NorthLink sailings to and from Lerwick were cancelled, with more disruption expected later in the week.

I have accommodations books for Up Helly Aa 2024 January. Are there resources I can contact to get on a waiting list for the after party? I know that islanders rightfully get the first dibs, but I have heard that some people give up their tickets and there may be a lottery or waitlist. Please advise if you know of any such scheme. Thank you.

Contact the tourist information centre as they normally have a waiting list.
