Man entered pubs with pool cue hidden in jacket

Witnesses followed a man around Lerwick on Saturday afternoon after they saw him making a scene outside the British Legion carrying a pool cue.

They saw Iain Brock, 30, of West Baila, Lerwick, drive off and then watched him walk in and out of three bars in the town centre with the pool cue hidden inside his jacket.

The police were called because he seemed to be acting aggressively. When they caught up with him trying to reverse out onto the main road at Esplanade they discovered he was more than two-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit for driving.

Appearing in handcuffs at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday, Brock pleaded guilty to carrying an offensive weapon around the centre of town and driving with a breath/alcohol count of 90 when the limit is 35.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client had been attacked the previous evening and had quit his job the previous day after an incident involving the person who attacked him. Nothing was said in court as to whether Brock had been out seeking revenge.

Sentence was deferred until 20th May for reports, including his suitability for community service. He was released on bail.
