New Total field will add to production for planned Sullom Voe pipeline and plant
Oil company Total is taking over a west of Shetland gas field which will add its production to the proposed pipeline and gas plant at Sullom Voe.
In a boost for the future of the terminal, Total said on Wednesday it was acquiring a 43.75 per cent stake in a field licence which includes the Tobermory gas discovery, 110 miles north-west of Shetland.
It already has the Laggan and Tormore gas fields in the area which it hopes to connect via pipeline to Sullom Voe where basic processing would take place before the gas is piped onwards to the St Fergus gas terminal near Peterhead.
The company confirmed that the Tobermory gas would feed into the proposed system which will use Shetland as a stepping stone to help deliver gas to the UK mains supply.
Tobermory was discovered in 1999. The field will now be operated by Total on behalf of Mobil, Marathon and Anadarko.
