Coastguard helicopter called out twice

Two sick offshore workers were flown to the Clickimin landing site in separate incidents this morning.

The coastguard helicopter was initially scrambled from its Sumburgh-base shortly before 7am, after reports were received of a sick man onboard the Andrew platform 140 nautical miles south east of Sumburgh.

Members of the Lerwick coastguard team were on hand as the patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital for treatment.

Later, a crewman had to be airlifted from the stand-by vessel Vos Trader, which which was 120 nautical miles north east of the isles. Again, the crewman was taken to the Clickimin before being taken by a waiting ambulance to hospital.
