Creel boat towed in

A creel boat had to be towed to safety last night after breaking down in Whalfirth Voe north of Yell.

The Aith lifeboat was called out shortly before 10pm when the 21 foot, Yell-based Polaris suffered difficulties. Two people were onboard the creel boat.

An anchor had been put out but the vessel was described as being in a “fairly dangerous” position in shallow water close to steep cliffs. There was sufficient power to run the navigation lights and radio telephone.

The crew on the Aith Lifeboat were able to move the Polaris into a safer position before they brought her alongside a pontoon in Whalfirth.

The lifeboat was back at the Aith pier, refuelled and ready for service by 3:20 am.
