Former isles politician honoured by Open University





Former isles MP Jim Wallace has received an honorary degree from the Open University.

He was one of three people judged to have made exceptional contributions to society, the others being Highlands & Islands Enterprise chairman Willy Roe and health service promoter John Dow.

Lord Wallace practised as an advocate before being elected as MP for Orkney and Shetland in 1983, a postion he held until 2001. He became the MSP for Orkney in 1999 and was later justice minister, enterprise minister and deputy First Minister.

He was appointed to the House of Lords in 2007.
