Lerwick warm-up for funnyman Noble

Comedian Ross Noble will warm-up for his autumn UK tour with a show in Lerwick.

The Northumberland-born funnyman will embark on his Tangentleman tour in September and said contrary to many other performers he did not think Edinburgh was "as far up as you can go".

He added: "I want to take the show from the top of the country to the bottom and I'm really looking forward to seeing what Shetland has got in store for me."

His stand-up routines are largely improvised and surreal – although he does have a few set topics throughout a tour. He described the planning for the entire show as "about four words on a piece of scrap paper.”

It is an approach which has seen Noble voted in the Channel 4 top ten greatest stand-up comics in 2007 – in 2010 he made number 11.

He will perform in Mareel on Thursday, 11th September.

Shetland Arts’ marketing officer, Lisa Ward said: “As Tangentleman is a UK-wide tour, it seems only fitting that the tour should start in the UK’s most northerly live venue.

"Shetland has a proud heritage of hosting some of the UK’s biggest names in comedy and music, helping to build Mareel’s reputation as one of the UK’s ‘must-play’ venues. Shetland Arts is delighted to be hosting this gig – we expect there will be a huge demand for tickets.”
