Messages of support for Strachan

Congratulations flooded in for swimmer Andrea Strachan last night after she sealed a place in the final of the 50m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Lerwick swimmer, 21, finished fourth in her semi-final but was quick enough to qualify for tonight's final in the Tollcross Swimming Centre. Her time of 31.52s was an improvement on her time in the first qualifying round.

Speaking to The Shetland Times earlier this week Strachan said she wanted to 'at least' reach the semi-finals. "I'm just doing the one race so I want it [competing] to last as long as it can so I'm going out there to do my best."

She has certainly done that, and last night messages of support and congratualtion were posted on social media sites. She will join fellow Scots Corrie Scott (30.79s) and Kathryn Johnstone (31.12s) in the final.

The sport's national governing body Scottish Swim posted on Twitter:"@CorrieScott1 #Andrea Strachan and @Kathy_swim all thro to Final of Womens 50m Brst. Well done girls! #better faster stronger".
