Rugby team loses to Stornoway

The Shetland rugby team lost Saturday’s BT Caledonia League Division 2 North match against Stornoway RFC at Clickimin.

It was a very close game in difficult conditions. It rained constantly and the water underfoot made open play difficult.

Shetland ended up on the wrong end of a 17-14 scoreline with Iain Goodlad scoring a try in the first half and Harry Morton adding another during the second period. Both tries were converted by Paul Grant.

Shetland piled on the pressure in the last 10 minutes, determined to win, and Edward “Rambo” Russell appeared to ground the ball with five minutes to go but the possible match winning try was not awarded.

Credit must go to Stornoway’s defence which denied Shetland victory when the visitors were put under pressure during the closing stages of the match.
