Tough run for Hrossey

Passengers on the Serco NorthLink ferry Hrossey had to endure a 26-hour journey to Aberdeen where she docked just before 2pm today after leaving Lerwick shortly after midday on Wednesday.

The sailing had been brought forward five-and-a-half hours from the scheduled 5.30pm departure because of the weather and rough seas.

The Hrossey arrived in Kirkwall at 7pm on Wednedsay before sailing again at 11.45pm, but she then had to drop anchor in Kirkwall Bay till 5am because of the excessive sea.

The ferry was scheduled to sail north to Kirkwall again at 5pm, although that sailing was dependent on her arrival time at Aberdeen.

As NorthLink Ferries is operating a temporary timetable to accom­modate the dry dock of each passen­ger vessel, there was no passenger vessel sailing from Aberdeen on Wed­nesday with the Hjaltland in dry dock.

The weather saw Wednesday’s scheduled freight vessel sailings cancelled. The Hildasay was scheduled to sail from Lerwick to Aberdeen at 6pm today and the Helliar was to sail north to Lerwick at the same time.
